This is a series of panels on Lake Mungo in the western desert of NSW near where I live.
The panels are set up to represent a walk through the dunes and show the variation of colours as the sun sets in the evening sky. There are animals in some; wild goats, kangaroos, emus and Major Mitchell cockatoos screeching through the sky.
Lake Mungo is a sacred site and one cannot sit there on dusk without being drawn into the feeling of the infinity of the world and its place in the universe. It is a mind blowing experience, especially if one is alone. It puts you in contact with yourself and your infinite smallness in the scheme of life.
I am an Australian artist well known internationally as well as at home. In 2007 I won 5th prize for painting at the Florence Biennale, which was an amazing adventure for me. To travel to Italy and win an award as an artist, was a dream come true.
