Finalist in Calleen Award 2007
This painting depicts on one side, the Murray River which was once a mighty river, now dwindling and dying with the effects of cotton farmers and irrigators expecting the river to give too much. The other panel shows how instead of water being left in a deep trench such as a river with trees to shade it from the heat of the sun, the farmer takes from the river and lays it out in shallow trenches which allows it to evaporate quickly.
Beautiful patterns though making an interesting abstract painting of water use. It holds a warning though!
I am an Australian artist well known internationally as well as at home. In 2007 I won 5th prize for painting at the Florence Biennale, which was an amazing adventure for me. To travel to Italy and win an award as an artist, was a dream come true.
