Sculptural depiction of a sleeping coal miner who works in the four feet high “monkey veins”. These miners crawled into and worked lying on their backs, stomachs and sides.
They developed arthritis from the dampness and could not sleep on a soft bed. Therefore, they slept on the kitchen floor next to the coal stove to keep warm during cold winter nights.
Yanashot employs different combinations of materials and methods in his sculpture. He is a stone carver inspired by plant, human and animal forms.
